Resumen
El cultivo de la manzana en Florida estuvo una vez limitado a las áreas del norte donde unas pocas variedades de calidad pobre o mediocre son utilizadas (Figura 1). Las mismas sólo producen frutos después de los inviernos severos. Las variedades norteñas como ‘Red Delicious’, ‘Golden Delicious’ y ‘McIntosh’ no tienen buenas producciones en Florida. El problema principal es que estas variedades no reciben el frío suficiente durante el invierno y consecuentemente, crecen lenta y débilmente y fructifican pobremente en Florida.
