Abstract

Using recently developed techniques ofgamma spectrometry, we investigated patterns of nutrient uptake and translocation within the tank bromeliad Guzmania lingulata. Uptake from foliar impoundments vs. soil was traced using four gamma-emitting radionuclides (Se-75, Cs-137, Zn-65, Mn-54). Foliage appeared to be the primary site ofnutrient acquisition. In general, inflorescences were stronger nutrient sinks than leaves; labeled nutrients were detectable within days after addition to foliar tanks
