Abstract

Five almond (Prunus amygdalus) cultivars were evaluated for their reaction to P. vulnus, P. neglectus, P thornei, and Z. guevarai, under greenhouse conditions at 120 days after inoculation with 1 000 nematodes/plant. Two of these, 'Garrigues' and 'Atocha', are used commonly as rootstocks in Spain. All cultivars were susceptible to P vulnus. This nematode showed high rates of reproduction in all cultivars ranging from 6.8 to 14.8. The number of nematodes/g of root was significantly higher in relation to the other nematode species in all materials tested. Pratylenchus neglectus showed low population increase, between 1.2 and 1.9, suggesting that almond is a poor host to this species, whereas P. thornei and Z. guevarai multipled poorly on almond, indicating that the plant is not a host of both species. No differences were found in root development for that period.
