LONGIDORIDS (NEMATODA, DORYLAIMIDA) FROM SYRIA WITH DESCRIPTION OF LONGIDORUS PAULI SP.N. AND PARALONGIDORUS HALEPENSIS SP.N. WITH SOD ISOZYMES AND PCR-RFLP PROFILES

Abstract
Longidorus pauli sp.n. and Paralongidorus halepensis sp.n. are described from Syria. L. pauli is characterized by total body length of ca. 7.6 mm, odontostyle length of 110 µm, lip region slightly set off from the rest of the body, mid-body vulva, amphidelphic, equally developed genital tracts, conoid with bluntly rounded terminus tail, abundant males and the first of the four juvenile stages with subdigitate tail; electrofocusing of SOD isozymes shows two bands of activity, one at pH 6.8, the other at pH 4.7; PCR-RFLP analysis demonstrates that L. pauli can be identified specifically by differences in the ITS restriction patterns in comparison to the type species Longidorus elongates. P. halepensis is characterized by total body length of ca. 7.7 mm, odontostyle length of 113 µm, lip region continuous with the rest of the body, mid-body vulva, amphidelphic, equally developed genital tracts, hemielliptical tail, rare male and the first of the four juvenile stages with digitate tail; electrofocusing of SOD isozymes shows two bands of activity, one at pH 8.8, the other at pH 5.4. PCR-RFLP analysis shows that P. halepensis is characterized by different restriction patterns in the ITS region compared to Longidorus pauli. L. euonymus and Xiphinema italiae are also reported.
