John O'Connell is H.D. Forsyth Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia. He received his BA from Pomona College, his BS and MS from MIT, and his PhD from the University of California Berkeley. He taught thermodynamics and statistical mechanics as well as materials science for chemical engineers at the University of Florida from 1966-88. His research on fluids involves theory, molecular simulation, and experiment.
