The Effective Use of Logbooks in Undergraduate Classes

Abstract

A successful strategy for introducing informal professional writing assignments in the undergraduate classroom is described.  Rationale for the project and techniques for successful implementation are discussed.  Benefits for both the instructor and the students are summarized.

Jennifer I. Brand, University of Nebraska

Jennifer I. Brand is Assistant Professor in the ChE Department at the University of NebraskaLincoln. She received her PhD in chemical engineering at the University of California, San Diego. and her BSE and MSE from the University of Michigan. She has worked as a chemical engineer in private industry and at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. She has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in thermodynamics, transport processes, biotechnology, air pollution, and semiconductor processing.
